Câu chẻ hay còn được gọi là câu nhấn mạnh, vì chúng được sử dụng để nhấn mạnh vào một đối tượng hay sự việc nào đó.

Trong một câu chẻ, một thông điệp duy nhất được chia thành hai mệnh đề, nhằm tập trung, nhấn mạnh vào phần thông tin mới đối với người nghe.

E.g.

It was John who borrowed my car yesterday.

Có 2 loại câu chẻ thường gặp nhất là: 1) câu chẻ bắt đầu bằng "It" và 2) câu chẻ bắt đầu bằng "that/all".

Trong bài này, chúng ta sẽ tập trung vào các dạng câu chẻ bắt đầu bằng "It".

I. Câu chẻ với “It” nhấn mạnh chủ ngữ:

Cấu trúc: It + be + thông tin cần nhấn mạnh + who/that + V + ...

E.g.:

A: Sharon's car got broken into yesterday, didn't it?
B: No. It was Nina’s car that got broken into!
