A dancer's life

Priya
I work as a dancer, and I'm also studying part-time. I practice most days and have to do my college work, so I can't always go out with my friends at weekends, but that's fine. We text each other every day. I mostly dance in musicals, but in the future I'm hoping to start jazz dance. My mum always comes to watch me on stage. She's my biggest fan! Being a dancer isn't easy, but I want to do it as long as I can.

There are dancers of all ages in my dance company and every year we go on international tours together. My cousin also dances with me. She's been a dancer for seven years and people everywhere know her now. She was a jazz dancer in the past, but loves what we do now. I don't usually feel worried before I dance in front of others - I know I'm good! But that's only because I try so hard. I spend about three hours dancing every day.

My name's Zack and I'm 14. This summer my dad and I travelled to Tanzania to climb Mount Kilimanjaro, Africa's highest mountain. My dad and I have climbed many mountains in Scotland since I was little, but, at 5,895 metres, Kilimanjaro was higher than anything I'd done before. Planning the trip took months, including a few weeks training in the mountains of Switzerland.

Over 20,000 people climb Kilimanjaro every year. Some do it because the countryside is very interesting, going from rainforest to snow at the top. Our reason was that you can get to the top without ropes and special climbing kit. There are also few storms on the mountain, but we only learnt that later.

Some UK travel companies only take people older than fifteen up Kilimanjaro. I thought this was strange because the youngest person to climb it was only seven. But a company in Tanzania with experience of climbing with kids allowed us to book their trip.

Climbing above 4,000 metres can be difficult because some people get terrible headaches. I was fine, but others in our group were sick, including Dad, so I had to look after him as we got near the top. The other problem was he lost his gloves. His hands got so cold, he couldn't feel them. This was dangerous, so I gave him my socks to keep his hands warm.

It took us six days altogether and it was my best experience ever. I'd do it again soon.

Philo T. Farnsworth

Philo T. Farnsworth was born in the USA in 1906. As a child, he was very interested in science and electricity and spent a lot of time about it. He also won a national for young engineers when he was just 13.

When he was 20, Farnsworth his own business. In 1927, he showed everyone his new idea: a of sending pictures using electricity. Many other people were working on ideas for a machine to do this, but Farnsworth's was the first that had no moving parts. In fact, it was the first true electronic TV.

After many business problems, Farnsworth had success in 1938 when another company him $1 million for his idea. He is not very famous these , but, as the father of electronic television, Farnsworth changed the world.

We're back from our family holiday in the US. It was amazing! It's biggest country I've ever been to. We traveled from Los Angeles to Seattle car. It's nearly 2000 km and the trip took us very long time - nearly a week.

My family liked Los Angeles best, I didn't agree - Seattle was my favourite place. It's smaller Los Angeles, and the food was better. Seattle is near the sea and we ate lots of fish. The only problem was that rained almost every day!
