Nowadays, people are more aware that wildlife all over the world is in . Many species of animals are threatened, and could easily become if we do not make an effort to protect them. In some cases, animals are hunted for their fur or for other valuable parts of their bodies. Some birds, such as parrots, are caught alive and sold as pets. For many animals and birds the problem is that their habitat - the place they live - is disappearing. More land is used for farms, for houses or industry, and there are open spaces than there once were. Farmers use powerful chemicals to help them to grow better crops, but these chemicals pollute the environment and spoil wildlife. The most successful animals on earth - human beings - will soon be the only ones left, we can solve this problem.

Tornadoes are giant rotating columns of air. They form in thunderstorms when there is a great difference in the temperature and humidity of the lower and upper atmosphere. They can be very dangerous and very destructive.

There are different varieties of tornadoes. They can be very big or small. Some tornadoes are only a few feet across and others can travel across an entire state. Tornadoes stretch from the ground high into the sky. Usually, people rate them from F0 to F5, F5 being the most dangerous with wind speeds of around 261-318 miles per hour. They are a very violent force of nature and can lay whole towns completely flat.

Tornadoes can happen all over the world but a lot of them happen in the central United States in a region called Tornado Alley. Tornado Alley is made up of the low, flat states of the central United States between the Rocky Mountains and the Appalachian Mountains. Even though Tornado Alley is the most common place for tornadoes, the deadliest recorded tornado was in Bangladesh in 1989 and killed around 1,300 people. Read the following passage and choose the correct answer to each of the questions.

As computer use becomes more common, the need for security is more common than ever. One of the greatest security threats in the online world is computer hacking.

Computer hacking is the unauthorized access to a computer or network of computers. Hackers are people who enter systems without any permission. They may alter or delete information, steal private information, or spread viruses that can damage or destroy files. But how exactly can a hacker get into a system to do these things?

Most hackers use information called protocols that are built into computer software. These protocols allow the computer to interact with one another. Protocols are sort of like computer police officers. When a computer connects to another system, the protocols check to see if the access is valid. The protocols can also determine how much information can be shared between the two systems. Hackers can manipulate the protocols to get unlimited access to a computer system.

In fact, just the act of entering a computer network is considered hacking. This is commonly called passive hacking. Passive hackers get a rush from just being able to access a challenging system like a bank or military network. Another kind of hacker tries to do damage to a system. After hacking into systems, these hackers release viruses or alter, delete, or take the information. Known as active hackers, they are, by far, the more dangerous of the two.

The easiest way to protect a system is with a good password. Long and unusual passwords are harder for hackers to guess. For even greater security, some online services now use “password-plus” systems. In this case, users first put in a password and then put in a second code that changes after the user accesses the site. Users either have special cards or devices that show them the new code to use the next time. Even if a hacker steals the password, they won’t have the code. Or if the hacker somehow gets the code, they still don’t know the password.

What is the main idea of this reading?

  • Good ways to stop hackers
  • Hackers and computer security
  • Funny things that hackers do
  • Famous hackers

  • acceptable
  • illegal

According to paragraph 3, which information is NOT true about protocols?

  • Protocols can try out whether it is legal to access another computer or not.
  • Protocols are a set of rules controlling the way data is sent between computers.
  • The amount of shared information between two computers depends on the host computer.
  • The data hackers can get from others' computers may be infinite.

Why are active hackers probably considered more dangerous than passive ones?

  • Active hackers are more skilled.
  • Passive hackers have more intense personalities.
  • Active hackers do damage.
  • Passive hackers are caught more easily.
