Three great cities to visit for your next holiday
Marston
Marston is a beautiful city near the mountains. It gets very windy there in the winter. Visitors often stay in the large hotels in the centre, which are comfortable but quite expensive. There is a famous old castle on a hill. You should take a camera because there are many exciting things in it! The city is also popular with tourists for the local chocolate cakes, so you should try one when you get there. You can fly there easily, because the international airport is only ten kilometres away from the city centre.
Oakhaven
Oakhaven is a busy place with lots of modern buildings, and it is popular with young travellers. It rains a lot in the spring, so remember to bring an umbrella. Families often rent small apartments because they are cheaper than booking hotel rooms. There is a fantastic indoor museum about the city's history, but you cannot take photos inside. When you get hungry, you should try the hot meals from the street markets. It is very easy to arrive by train from the capital.
Sunford
Sunford is a lovely city by the sea, where the weather is usually warm and sunny. Many people sleep in tents at the large campsite, which is a fun way to save money. There is no railway station here, so visitors have to catch a bus from the nearest airport. You can spend the afternoon sailing on the water. In the evening, everyone goes to the restaurants near the beach because the fresh fish is delicious.
Which place is best for visitors who enjoy hot weather?
Which place has a building where you can learn about the past?
Which place do visitors need a lot of money to stay in?
Which place is a good choice for people who like sweet food?
Which place can't you travel to by train?
Which place has wet weather during one time of the year?
Which place is good for visitors who want to take photographs?
Read the following passage and choose the correct answer to each of the questions.
A fridge in the street
by Leo Martin, student
For a school project last month, I learned how much food people throw away. In many families, a lot of good food goes into the bin every week, because people buy too much or forget it at the back of the fridge. Shops also throw away bread, fruit and milk that is still fine to eat. At the same time, many people in our towns do not have enough food.
Look in almost any family's bin on a Monday, and you will see it. It is worst before holidays. Shoppers spend a long time in the shops, fill their bags with food 'just in case', and then cook less than half of it. Most of them say they are sorry, but they do the same again the next month.
Another story is about a small town in Spain. A group of neighbours took an old fridge that nobody wanted, cleaned it, painted it green and left it outside the town hall. A sign says: 'Take what you need. Leave what you can.' Shops and families put bread, fruit and cheese in it, and anyone can take them for free. The fridge cost almost nothing.
Now the fridge is nearly always full, and nobody takes more than they need. It is a clever idea, and it helps neighbours to talk to each other, too. So my question is, why do we not have a fridge like this in every street?
What does the first paragraph say about food waste?
Which person is an example of the problem the text shows?
Which is the best example of the same idea as the fridge in Spain?
What does the fridge show about the people in the town?
What does Leo hope readers will do?
