Three boys talk about the work they do to help at home
Ben
I love spending Saturday mornings in the garage with my grandfather. He is very good at repairing old bicycles, and he shows me how to do it. Sometimes it takes a few hours, but I feel fantastic when a bike works perfectly again. Because our neighbours know about my hobby, they often bring me their broken bikes. I don't ask for any money, but they sometimes give me chocolate!
Leo
Every Sunday evening, I make dinner for my family. I usually make soups or salads because I can use fresh vegetables from our garden. My older sister always helped me in the past, but she has too much college homework these days, so I do everything myself. I enjoy trying new meal ideas from the internet, and the food usually tastes great. I would like to work in a restaurant when I finish school.
Sam
My parents asked me to paint the long back wall in our garden this summer. It was a very big job, and I felt really tired after working outside for a few hours. Luckily, my little brother sometimes helped me clean the brushes, which saved me time. When I finished the job yesterday, my dad gave me some extra pocket money. I am going to buy a new computer game with it tomorrow.

Our Train Trip to the Sea
Posted by Owen, age 13
Last Saturday, my grandpa and I spent the day at the seaside. Grandpa has a small old car, but he does not like driving on busy roads. So we decided to go by train. I enjoy train journeys because I can sit by the window and watch the fields go past.
Our train was due to leave at five past nine, and the journey to the coast takes ninety minutes. We had booked a boat trip for eleven o'clock, so I was really excited. In my bag, I had packed my swimming things, some sandwiches and a bottle of water.
At the station, a man at the gate asked to see our tickets. I looked in my bag, but they were not there! I had left them on the kitchen table at home. The ticket machine was broken, so we could not buy new ones. Grandpa phoned Mum, and she brought the tickets to the station in her car. It took her twenty minutes, but by then our train had already left.
We had to wait for the ten o'clock train, and we arrived at half past eleven. It was too late for the boat trip, and there was no other boat that day. I felt really disappointed, but Grandpa just laughed and said, "Never mind. We can still have a lovely day by the sea."
He was right! We ate our sandwiches on the beach, and I swam in the water. Before taking the train home, we shared a big ice cream. Next time, I will keep the tickets in my coat pocket!
Why did Owen and Grandpa travel by train?
How long does the journey to the sea take?
How did Owen and Grandpa finally get their tickets?
What did Grandpa think about missing the boat trip?
What does Owen probably think about the trip?

Hi Sam,
I (0) am writing to tell you about my family holiday in Japan. We visited Tokyo first and then travelled to Hokkaido Tuesday. During the train journey, we saw some beautiful mountains forests.
We stayed in a quiet village for a days. I liked Hokkaido much than Tokyo because there was a lot of snow everywhere. The meals in our hotel were not as expensive the food in the city, and everything tasted delicious.
I bought lots of great things. I will show to you tomorrow!
