Three teenagers talk about damaging something important
Phillips
Last month, I borrowed a camera from the school photography club. While I was walking home, I stopped for a cold drink and dropped it on the hard street. I didn't wait, and I told my teacher about it the next morning. Because it cost thirty pounds to repair, I used all my pocket money. This means I can't get the new video game I really wanted! Now I only use my own things, and I am much more careful.
Jasmine
My older sister has a beautiful red jacket, and I wore it to the park. While I was climbing a tall tree, the jacket got a big hole in it. I didn't tell her because I was scared, but she soon saw it. Luckily, my mum kindly spent two hours repairing it for me. It looks fine now, but my sister is angry because she couldn't wear it to work. She says that I can't borrow her clothes anymore, so I must wear my old coat.
Michael
I usually do my homework on my dad's laptop. Last week, I had a cup of sweet tea on the desk, and it went all over the keyboard. Because the computer stopped working completely, my dad couldn't do his job for three days. He wasn't angry, but I felt terrible about it. When a shop fixed the laptop, I decided to wash his car every weekend to pay for it. After that, I never drink near machines!

Amy Walsh
Guitar player Amy Walsh plays in the Irish band, Green Hill. Amy started playing the guitar when she was ten. "My music teacher played the guitar, and one day she asked who wanted to learn. Some of my friends put up their hands, and so did I. I didn't have a guitar, but my aunt said I could use hers. The lessons were hard at first, but playing the guitar soon became important to me."
After leaving school, Amy moved to Dublin. For a time, she preferred listening to music to playing it. The pop songs she listened to sounded very different from guitar music, so she bought an electric guitar to get a similar sound. Then she began to put the things she liked about pop music into the songs she played.
A year later, Amy met a small group of musicians in Dublin. "We all thought about music in the same way, and we started Green Hill together. Soon we were playing lots of concerts, and our songs were selling well. But we didn't want this to change us. We wanted to stay friends."
Amy often meets people who think playing the guitar is an unusual job, but she doesn't agree with them. "For me, it's the best job in the world," she says. "I guess I'm lucky that way."
Amy loves visiting music shops. "The internet has changed music, but when I walk into a music shop, it feels like another world, a place where time has stopped. Someone has looked after these beautiful old instruments for two or three hundred years. I think that's amazing."
What do we learn about Amy in the first paragraph?
