The Birthday Present
It was Sally's birthday! Her family was in the living room with a big strawberry cake. Everyone sang the birthday song loudly. Then Mum cut the cake and gave everyone a delicious piece on a plate.
After they finished eating, Dad stood up with a big smile. "Time for your present, Sally!" But when he looked around the room, his smile disappeared. "Oh no! Where is the present box? It was on the table this morning!"
Sally felt worried but excited. "Let's look for it!" she said. The family started searching everywhere downstairs. They looked in the kitchen, under the sofa, behind the TV, and even in the bathroom. Dad found some old socks on the floor, but no present box!
Suddenly, Sally had an idea. She ran upstairs to her bedroom. There, under her desk, she saw Max, their big brown dog, and he was lying on something. She started to laugh and shouted, "I found it! Max has my present!"
The family ran into the room. Sally opened the box carefully. There were new striped pajamas inside - and they were warm because Max slept on them!
