Tom and his sister Sarah were cleaning their grandmother's old house. Their family got the house after Grandma died a few months ago.
Then Tom found something small under a lamp on Grandma's desk. "Look, Sarah! I found an old key!" he said.
"What does it open?" asked Sarah.
The two children searched everywhere in the house. They looked in all the rooms on the first floor and the second floor. They put the key in every door, but no door opened.
"Let's look in Grandma's bedroom again," said Sarah.
They went into the bedroom and looked carefully. Sarah walked around slowly and saw something strange. "Tom! There's a door behind Grandma's big chair!" she said.
They pushed the chair to the left. There was a small door which was made of wood! Tom used the key, and the door opened slowly.
Tom and Sarah couldn't believe their eyes! The room was full of beautiful paintings! There were paintings of flowers, mountains, rivers, and people everywhere.
"Wow! Did Grandma paint all of these?" whispered Sarah.
They ran downstairs to tell their parents. Mum looked at the paintings and started to cry. "Your grandmother was a famous artist many years ago," she said. "But she didn't paint after you were born. I never told you about it. Perhaps she started to paint again."
Tom and Sarah smiled at each other. Now they knew their grandmother's wonderful secret.
