The Wrong Homework

Helen was a new student at school. She was very worried and didn't have any friends yet.

On Monday, her teacher Mrs. Brown said, "Please write about 'My Best Friend.' Bring it on Friday."

Helen went home and thought about the homework. She didn't have any friends at school, but she had Max, her cat! Max was orange and fat and he always happy to see her. He played with her every day and slept on her bed at night.

Helen worked hard all week. She wrote five pages about Max!

Then Helen read her homework to the class. "My best friend is Max. He has orange fur and green eyes. He loves fish and..."

Everyone started to laugh! Helen's face was red.

Peter whispered, "Helen, I think the teacher wanted a person, not a pet!"

Helen felt terrible. But Mrs. Brown smiled and said, "This is wonderful, Helen! Max sounds like a great friend. Our pets can be our best friends too!"
