The Small Kitten

One afternoon, Lucy was walking home from school in the rain when she heard a small sound behind a big tree. She stopped and looked around carefully. There, in the wet grass, she saw a small white kitten. It was all wet and looked very cold.

She carefully picked up the kitten and put it in her scarf to help it feel warm. Lucy walked to the houses near the tree and asked about its home.

"Is this your kitten?" she asked.

But everyone said no. No-one knew where the kitten came from.

Lucy took the kitten home. Her parents were surprised when they saw it.

"Can we keep it just for tonight?" Lucy asked. "It's too cold outside."

Her parents agreed. Lucy used a towel to dry the kitten and gave it some warm milk. The next morning, they took it to the pet hospital. The doctor said it was fine.

"Can I keep it, please?" Lucy asked her parents. They smiled and said yes.

Lucy was so happy! She decided to call the kitten "Snow." Since that day, Snow has had food, water, a warm bed, and a family.

Every afternoon after school, Lucy and Snow play together in the garden. Snow loves to catch butterflies and beetles, and Lucy loves to watch her new friend run and jump.
