Emma's Job

Emma got a summer job. She had to help Mrs. Green at the town library. Every day, she put books back on the shelves. It was very boring work. The books were heavy and the shelves were very tall. Emma had to climb up and down a small chair many times. She did the same thing again and again.

One quiet afternoon, Emma was putting books on a high shelf when she found a very old book behind other books. It was red and dirty. Emma opened it slowly and carefully. Inside the book, there was a beautiful, old map of the town from 100 years ago! The map showed old places, buildings, and a theater that disappeared many years ago.

Mrs. Green was very excited. "This map is so important for the town!" she said. "People have looked everywhere for it!"

Emma and Mrs. Green cleaned the map carefully with soft towels and put it in a special glass box in the middle of the library. Many people came to see the old map. Journalists wrote stories about Emma and the map, and some important people came to thank her.

Emma understood that even boring jobs could have exciting surprises. Then she loved working at the library and looking after old books very carefully. Sometimes the best things stayed in unusual places.
