Offices and Skyscrapers

Many people work (0) in offices. An office is a place people use computers, write emails, talk on the phone, and  meetings. Some offices are small, but some are in very tall buildings which are skyscrapers.

A skyscraper has many floors, and people go up and down inside lifts. From the top floor, you can often see the city with its streets, cars, and parks. Skyscrapers are usually made glass and metal. In evening, they look beautiful with lights in window.

In big cities, there are hundreds of offices inside one skyscraper. Some people work for , some for shops or companies, and others for hotels. There are also cafés and restaurants, workers can buy coffee or lunch with their friends.

Skyscrapers are important because they give  for many people to work together in one place and make cities special and exciting.

Helen's Work

It was Saturday morning, and Helen started her first job at a small coffee shop in town. She was very excited, but she was also a little worried. When she arrived, the shop was already open. The smell of new coffee was in the air, and some people were already drinking coffee at tables or waiting for their drinks.

The manager, Mr. Brown, smiled and said, "Welcome, Helen! Don't worry. I'll show you what to do." He taught her how to use the coffee machine, bring coffee to tables, and be friendly to buyers. Helen tried hard, but things didn't go well at first. She dropped a glass cup, and it broke on the floor. Then she forgot about one man's drink, so he was angry. Helen felt terrible and thought, "Perhaps I'm not good at this job."

Mr. Brown came over and said, "Everyone makes mistakes on their first day. You're doing fine. Just try again slowly." Helen felt better. She cleaned up the broken cup and made another cup of coffee carefully. The man who was waiting for his coffee tried it and said it was delicious! Many other buyers were kind too, and they smiled and thanked her. 

When the shop closed that evening, Mr. Brown said, "You worked really hard today. Well done!" Helen went home tired but happy. She thought, "I will do better tomorrow!"
