Astronauts and Space

An astronaut is a person who travels into space. The first person to go into space a man named Yuri Gagarin. He travelled into space many years , in 1961. Today, astronauts live and work on the International Space Station, is like a large science laboratory flying around the Earth.

Before anyone can become an astronaut, they study very hard at university. It a long time to learn how to fly a rocket safely. In space, things are different because there isn't gravity. Things don't fall to the ground. Astronauts have to sleep in special sleeping bags tied to the wall they don't float away in the middle of the night!

Eating in space is unusual, too. Astronauts eat food from plastic packets, and it sometimes very different from the meals we have at home. In the future, scientists hope that astronauts travel to other planets, like Mars. Being an astronaut is an job, and many children wish to do it one day.
