The best new magazine

On Sunday morning, Lily really wanted her dad to read a funny new comic with her in the living room. But her father was busy reading a business newspaper. He explained that grown-ups must read important news every day. Lily felt a little sad and bored.

She found her older brother, Ben, and said, "Let's make our own magazine!" They took a notebook and some pens, and went outside to talk to the people in their street. First, they visited Anna, the friendly nurse. Her brave dog, Max, had three little puppies. Next, they saw Mr. Brown, the builder. He was finishing a huge wooden swing for his lovely garden. Ben took some great photos with his phone, while Lily drew beautiful pictures and wrote the stories carefully.

Later that afternoon, Lily secretly put their new magazine inside her father's newspaper on the table. When her dad finally sat down on the sofa with a hot cup of tea, he opened his newspaper and suddenly stopped reading.

He looked at the colourful magazine and laughed happily. "Wow!" he said. "I didn't know Mr. Brown could build a swing. We should go and look at it this weekend!" He told Lily that her excellent little magazine was more interesting than his business newspaper. Lily felt very pleased with their hard work.
