Charlie helps a puppy

Charlie's parents have a small pet shop in the town centre. After school, Charlie always helps his mum and dad. He usually gives food to the animals there. On Saturday and Sunday mornings, he visits his grandfather at his animal hospital. Charlie really loves going there because he enjoys playing with all the little dogs.

One Saturday, a very small puppy had a terrible stomach ache. Charlie's grandfather wanted to check the puppy carefully, but the mother dog was very afraid. She made loud noises and pushed his hand away. 'We must take the baby dog into the special room,' his grandfather said. In that quiet room, his grandfather gave the puppy some warm water and medicine.

That week, Charlie's school was closed because of the snow. He had a winter holiday, so he stayed at the hospital to help his grandfather with the puppy every day. After four days, the puppy was much better. Charlie's grandfather carried it outside to its mother. Charlie felt sad to say goodbye.
