The lost parrot
Lily and her older brother, Oliver, were playing in their garden last Saturday. The weather was sunny and warm. Suddenly, they heard a very strange noise coming from the top of the big mango tree. 'What's that?' asked Lily. Oliver looked up into the leaves. He was surprised because he saw a beautiful parrot! It was bright red and blue. The poor bird looked very tired and hungry.
'We should give it some food,' Oliver said. The children ran into the kitchen and found some green grapes in the fridge. When they went back outside, they put the fruit on a small plate on the grass. The parrot flew down quickly and started to eat. While the bird was having its delicious meal, Lily saw a silver ring on its leg. There was a phone number on it!
'Quick, let's tell Mum!' Lily shouted. Their mother came out and used her phone to call the number. A woman answered and she sounded very happy. 'That is my pet, Charlie! He flew away two days ago,' the woman explained. Half an hour later, the woman drove to their house to get her parrot.
She thanked the children for their help. 'You are very kind,' she said. Then she gave them some tickets to the city zoo! 'Now we can go and see more amazing animals,' Oliver laughed.
