Jack lived with his parents in a small, quiet village high up in the mountains. One cold winter morning, the fog outside was very thick. Jack looked out of his bedroom window. He was , but he couldn't even see the front gate of his own house down below!

His mother walked into his room and looked quite unhappy. "Your school trip to the city museum can’t happen today, Jack," she explained. "It is too dangerous for the school to drive in this terrible weather."

Jack felt very because he really wanted to go on the trip. Suddenly, the telephone rang. Mum answered it. "That was your friend, Fred," she told Jack. "He says there’s a lot of ice on the lake in the village!"

On Thursday afternoon, Charlie was late for an important football match with his team, the Red Stars. He was upstairs in his bedroom when he looked at his clock. He ran down the stairs into the hall, quickly picked up his blue sports bag, and jumped on his bicycle. He rode his bike to the large stadium as fast as he could.

When Charlie finally arrived, all his friends were already wearing their team clothes and waiting on the grass. Charlie quickly opened his bag because he needed to put on his football boots before the game started. But when he looked inside, he was very surprised! There were no boots in it. He only saw a soft towel, a bottle of shampoo, and a pink swimsuit. Charlie felt terrible. He had his mother's swimming bag by mistake!

Charlie sat down and was very sad because he thought he couldn't play in the match with his friends. Suddenly, his classmate, Paul, walked over to him. Paul opened his own backpack and smiled. "Don't worry about it," Paul said. "I have another pair of boots. You can borrow them today!" The boots were a bit big for Charlie's feet, but he still ran fast and played brilliantly. In the second half, Charlie even scored a fantastic goal, and the Red Stars won the game!
