Lucy was a very clever girl who loved making new things at home. She spent most of her free time building different machines. Sometimes, her classmates laughed at her because they did not understand her hobby. But Lucy did not mind. She really wanted to win the school's 'Young Inventor' competition that year.

Lucy decided to make a special robot that could pick up old things from the floor. For two weeks, she collected old metal and plastic that her family had saved. Every evening, Lucy worked hard in her room. She put the different parts together and painted them. Before the competition, she tested the robot many times at home. Each time, it moved around the room and picked up small things from the floor.

On the morning of the competition, all the students brought their new machines to the school hall. When it was Lucy's turn, she turned her robot on, but nothing happened. Lucy looked at it carefully and saw that one part was in the wrong place. She moved the part back, and the robot started moving again. It travelled around the hall and picked up several empty bottles from the floor.

Mr. Hill, the science teacher, was very happy with Lucy's robot. He smiled and gave her the first prize, which was a silver laptop. Her classmates did not laugh at her after that. Instead, they asked Lucy to show them how to make robots too!
