Last weekend, Helen and her dad went to a big pet shop in the city centre. Helen really wanted to buy a pet bird. When they walked through the door, Helen heard a beautiful sound. Someone was whistling a very happy song. Helen looked around but she couldn't see any people whistling.
"Where is that amazing music coming from?" Helen asked her dad. They walked to the back of the shop and found the answer. There was a lovely green parrot inside a large cage. The man who worked in the shop smiled and said, "That is our cleverest bird. He lived in a school music classroom for two years, so he learned to whistle lots of different songs."
Helen walked near the cage and the parrot started singing again. He looked very friendly and hopped up and down happily. "He is usually quiet when people come in," the man explained. "I think he likes you very much!" Helen was so excited. "He is wonderful, Dad. Can we please take him home?" she asked. Dad laughed and agreed.
"What will you call him, Helen?" asked the man. Helen thought for a minute while the green bird whistled another song. "Well, he sings like a pop star," Helen answered. "So, I will call him Star!" Dad and the man agreed that it was the perfect name for a clever parrot.
