Subject: Field Trip Report
Hey Emily!
Hope you're doing well! I just wanted to follow up on our field trip to the zoo last week. It was so much fun, right? I took a bunch of notes and pics, and I'm really excited to share them with you.
I was thinking it would be great to work on our report together. We can go over my notes and pictures, and you can help me organize my thoughts and ideas. When are you free? Let's schedule a time that works for both of us.
Looking forward to hearing from you!
Love,
Anna

Frank and Jack knew it was time to go inside. Their fingers felt icy, almost turning blue from making so many snowballs. They had built two big snowmen and had a fun snowball fight, but now they were tired and cold. School had been canceled because of a big snowstorm that left more than three inches of fresh snow. The streets and sidewalks were frozen, so the school bus couldn’t make it up the hill to their house. This meant the boys could stay home alone, as their parents had to go to work. The neighbors, the Packers, were also home in case the boys needed any help.
After coming inside, Frank and Jack quickly changed into dry clothes. It felt much better to be warm, but they were still shivering. Frank suggested making a fire to warm up. However, Jack thought it was a bad idea since they had promised their parents to be safe. He was afraid the fire might get too big and cause trouble. Finally, they both agreed a fire wasn’t the best choice. Instead, two boys switched on the heater and got under warm blankets. Soon they felt cozy and warm.
Why didn't Frank and Jack go to school?
Why did Jack think making a fire was a bad idea?
How did the boys finally warm up after coming inside?

I was excited to let my friends see my new sneakers at rehearsal for the fourth-grade play. I’d worked hard, saving for weeks to buy them. When practice began, Mrs. Rodriguez asked us to take off our shoes to keep the stage clean, so I carefully put mine in my red backpack.
After rehearsal, I opened my backpack, but my sneakers were gone! I ran to Mrs. Rodriguez. "Mrs. Rodriguez!" I yelled. "Someone stole my sneakers! I put them in my backpack, and now they’re missing!" She called everyone to help search, but they weren’t anywhere. Then, I noticed Sasha James opening her backpack - and there were my sneakers! "Those are my sneakers, Sasha! Why did you take them?" I blurted out. "I didn’t! I swear! I don’t know how they got in my backpack," Sasha said, looking surprised.
All of a sudden, my face reddened as I realized what had happened. Sasha’s backpack was the same color as mine. "I’m so sorry, Sasha. I must have put them in your backpack by mistake." "It’s okay, Beth." Sasha smiled. "If they were mine, I’d be upset if they went missing, too."
I learned my lesson – I’ll be sure to check the facts before blaming anyone next time!

What did Beth do when she found her sneakers in Sasha’s backpack?
How did Beth feel when she realized she put her sneakers in the wrong backpack?

Scientists are creating new technology to help doctors, nurses, and patients in hospitals. They are trying to create new machines that help to ease the pain of patients and make doctors’ and nurses’ jobs easier. One invention that helps is the video remote interpreter, or VRI. This machine connects deaf patients with interpreters outside the hospital. It makes communication easier for both patients and medical staff. Another machine is being designed for patients with burns. It will sit close to the patient but will not touch their skin. This is important because touching burns is very painful. Normally, doctors must take a sample of the skin to check for infection. This machine will test for infection without touching the burn. Scientists continue to invent new ways to improve health and comfort in hospitals.
According to the text, new machines invented by scientists helped _____.

The Grand Canyon
The Grand Canyon is one of the world’s most impressive natural wonders, stretching 277 miles through northern Arizona. The Colorado River flows through it, starting in the Rocky Mountains and traveling 1,450 miles to the Gulf of California. Over billions of years, this river carved out the canyon, revealing rocks two billion years old. The canyon is more than a mile deep in some places, and its width varies from four to eighteen miles. The top is flat, with forests of oak, spruce, and pine trees. Many animals, such as mountain lions, bighorn sheep, and bobcats, live here. The Grand Canyon once had two mountain ranges, ancient seas, and now holds fossils of early plants and animals. For scientists, the Grand Canyon is a place to study Earth’s history.

Some doctors suggest drinking a glass of water first thing in the morning before doing anything else. This water should be at body temperature - not too hot or too cold. Drinking water in the morning can help your body in many ways. It cleans your kidneys and prepares your stomach for digestion. It also helps your intestines absorb nutrients better and makes it easier for you to go to the bathroom.
Experts recommend drinking about 1,600 milliliters of water daily, but it’s best to drink this amount in small portions throughout the day. Drinking too much at once can make your kidneys work too hard. Some people think it’s better to drink between meals, not during, because they believe water weakens stomach juices and slows down digestion. If you’re unsure about your hydration, check your urine color: light yellow means you’re likely drinking enough, while dark yellow means you might need more water.
Which part of the body does NOT benefit from drinking water in the morning?
According to the text, why should you not drink water during meals?
How can you check if you’re drinking enough water?
