Rob Stone and the school play

Last week, Rob Stone, a famous British actor, and star of many Hollywood films had a party for his 53rd birthday. Rob invited a lot of other actors to his beautiful home for his party.

After dinner, he stood up and spoke to everyone there. He told them about something that happened when he was at school 40 years ago. As a schoolboy, Rob loved the theatre, and he was very happy when he had the first part in a play. It was very sad to play by Shakespeare, the sixteenth-century English writer.

Rob played the part of an old man who had to die on stage. He practiced and practiced to become good at the part. He had to lie on a bed, say a few sad words of goodbye to his sons and then shout in pain and die.

Like all the other parents, Mr. and Mrs. Stone came to watch their son in the play. Rob told his guests, ‘I shall never forget that evening. It was terrible. As I died, I could hear my father laughing! I still remember now how bad I felt and I have not asked my father to one of my plays since.’

Read the passage then choose the best answer to each question below.

Plants and animals are very important for our planet. Both are essential for keeping the environment healthy and maintaining the planet’s balance.

Plants give food and oxygen to animals and people. Trees make oxygen through a process called photosynthesis. They also help clean the air and water to keep nature in balance. Trees and plants create beautiful areas, like grasslands and forests. They cover about 30% of the Earth’s surface.

Animals also play important roles in nature. They help control pests by eating insects or small animals. For example, bats can eat up to 1,000 insects in just one hour. Animals are part of the food chain. This keeps the environment balanced and allows species to survive.

Different areas have different types of plants and animals. Rainforests have many kinds of trees, colorful flowers, and unique animals, like jaguars and toucans. In deserts, cacti can live with very little water. Animals like camels and lizards have changed through time so that they can live in dry conditions.

Sadly, climate change and pollution are big problems for plants and animals. Chemicals like pesticides and fertilizers can hurt both. To protect them, we should reduce pollution, avoid harmful chemicals, and protect their habitats. Enjoying nature’s beauty can help us understand why it is so important to protect our environment. We should work together to keep our planet healthy and full of life.
