The company claims it wants to give people a chance to own these increasingly rare insects, and says it takes proper care of them while they're inside the machines. Whether or not that's entirely true, the machines have become extremely popular. Each machine sells more than 1,200 crickets a month, and sometimes an entire stock sells out within just a few minutes.
Conservationists, however, see things differently. They worry that children may start to think of living animals the same way they think of candy or soft drinks - something to simply buy and use.
