Read the text and answer the following questions.
In 1921, a man named Earle Dickson invented something very useful called the Band-Aid. His wife, Josephine, often cut her fingers while she was cooking. Before Band-Aids, people had to use cloth and tape to cover cuts, but these didn't stick very well, especially on fingers that moved a lot.
Earle came up with a smart solution to help his wife. He put a small piece of cloth in the middle of some sticky tape and then covered it to keep it clean. This new bandage was easy for his wife to use all by herself. When Earle's boss at Johnson & Johnson, James Johnson, saw this invention, he thought it was so great that they should make it for everybody. Because of his smart invention, Earle even became the vice president of the company.
In the beginning, not many people were buying Band-Aids. So, in the 1950s, the company had a new idea. They made Band-Aids with pictures of Mickey Mouse and Superman on them, with the hope that kids would like them. They also helped get the word out by giving Boy Scouts and soldiers free Band-Aids.
Over the years, the Band-Aid has improved. They started making them with machines in 1924, made them cleaner with sterilization in 1939, and changed to a better type of tape in 1958. The Band-Aid became very popular, especially with a fun song that said, "I am stuck on Band-Aid brand 'cause Band-Aid's stuck on me!"
Today, Band-Aids are a common item in first aid kits worldwide, which shows how a simple idea can have a big impact on everyday life.
