"Đuông dừa" is one of the strangest dishes in Vietnam. It is a specialty dish from the Mekong Delta, known as "coconut worms." This fascinating dish is the most popular during the rainy season, from June to September. The worms live in coconut trees and eat the youngest parts of the plants, so they are rich in healthy proteins. They are only as big as an adult’s index finger, about 3 to 5 cm long, and light yellow in their whole body.

People carefully selects the fattest coconut worms and cleans them. Then, they are grilled over a barbecue with garlic and lemongrass. Some people say they taste like seafood. Typically, people often like to enjoy coconut worms when they drink beer or alcohol drinks. It is a strange Vietnamese food to foreign tourists. The local government does not allow the sale of coconut worms, so it can be difficult to find this dish.
