Read the following passage and choose the correct answer to each of the following questions.

Many people believe that learning ends when school does, but for others, education continues throughout life. We spoke to two adult learners who shared their experiences.

Helen, a nurse, decided to pursue further education to become a nurse practitioner. “I've wanted to widen my knowledge and skills,” she explains. “In my job, I encounter patients with complex health conditions daily, and I felt the need to do more for them.” Attending night school while balancing work and family wasn’t easy, but her determination kept her going. Helen found that learning new things not only boosted her confidence but also gave her more relevant skills for her career. She believes that continuous learning has helped her maintain her intelligence and stay ahead in her field.

John, on the other hand, is a businessman who took a creative writing course. “I always wondered about writing and storytelling,” he says. “I've wanted to see if I could acquire the skills to write something meaningful.” The course broadened his perspective and allowed him to see the world differently. It also gave him a break from the daily distractions of work. Through distance learning, John found that meeting people with diverse backgrounds enriched his experience even more. He believes that lifelong learning keeps the mind sharp and helps maintain a fresh outlook on life.

Both Helen and John agree that education can help prevent us from being imprisoned by routine. Whether it’s advancing your career, discovering a new passion, or simply staying informed, learning is valuable at any age. Their journeys through hardship and perseverance highlight the benefits of lifelong learning. Helen and John have some advice for other adult learners. Helen says, “Be patient with yourself. Learning takes time.” John says, “Start with a course that you find exciting. That way, you’ll be more motivated to learn.”

As the old saying goes, “You’re never too old to learn.”
