I have learned many things over the past few years while reading about and doing some gardening. So, here is my top advice about gardening. First, you do not need to spend a lot of money to have a beautiful garden. There are not many garden (DECORATE) and pathways. Some of the most stunning gardens I have seen are rows of plants. They are beautiful plants loaded with fruits and vegetables. We can also find many useful things for free, from pieces of old wood to discarded pots, and even (WANT) containers. Moreover, a thriving garden does not require expensive tools; often, simple, repurposed materials work just as (GOOD) .
Read the following passage and choose the correct answer to each of the questions.
Are modern children really less patient?
Interestingly, among that first group of children, the ones who did well in the test ended up doing better in adult life than those who did badly.
A. How many times have you heard older people complaining that today's kids need to be entertained all the time and move constantly from one activity to another? They say that technology has changed today’s children – they now demand everything immediately and won’t work to earn rewards.
B. An American psychologist, John Protzko, decided it was time to test these opinions. His idea was to repeat a test that was first used in the 1960s and then compare the results of those children's performance with that of children today. The Marshmallow Test was part of an experiment to see if children could control their own behavior. Interestingly, among that first group of children, the ones who did well in the test, showing good self-control, ended up doing better in adult life than those who did badly. The test is still used today to shed light on child development.
C. Before comparing the results of children taking the test in the 1960s and 2010s, Protzko asked 260 child experts what they predicted he would learn from the exercise. Interestingly, only sixteen percent of them said that they thought children would get better at the test over time. The rest said that they believed the test would show children's self-control has decreased.
D. In fact, Protzko found performance has improved over the last fifty years, which is the opposite of popular opinion. Children’s ability to wait for rewards has actually increased over time. Perhaps this shouldn’t be so surprising. Research shows progress in other areas, too. Exam results for teenagers have continuously improved, and teenagers put themselves in fewer dangerous situations than their parents’ generation did. This is a sign that they’re becoming more responsible.
E. However, not all experts are convinced by Protzko's results. Some have questioned whether these results really show that today’s children have greater self-control and have suggested other explanations. For example, some experts said that they thought children’s attitudes toward sweets may be different now than in the past, particularly as sweets are available everywhere. Most parents today frequently tell their children that sugar is bad for them, which may also influence children’s attitudes toward eating sweets. It’s an interesting argument, but still, all the signs suggest young people are, it seems, becoming more patient.
What does the word "they" (paragraph E) refer to?

TikTok’s Short Video Platform
Short videos on TikTok have become very popular, especially among young people. Many teenagers and young adults like watching these quick clips because they are fun, easy to understand, and can be watched quickly. . People enjoy the fast pace and entertaining content, and it feels good to see new videos all the time.
But there is a problem with watching so many short videos. When you watch TikTok, your brain gets small bursts of a chemical called dopamine. . When you see something funny or interesting, your brain releases dopamine, and you feel good. The more you watch, the more your brain wants to get these quick dopamine hits. Over time, your brain can start to crave for more and more short videos. It begins to prefer these quick hits of happiness instead of focusing on longer tasks, like reading a book, studying for school, or having a real conversation with friends.
Because of this, some people find it hard to concentrate on things that take more time and patience. After spending a lot of time on TikTok, your brain gets used to instant excitement and may get bored easily with activities that are slow or require effort. . It can also affect your ability to build patience, as your brain gets used to instant rewards and doesn’t want to wait.
Scientists and researchers have noticed these effects. . While TikTok can be fun and entertaining, it’s a good idea to take regular reaks and set limits on how much time you spend watching videos. Doing other activities like reading, playing outside, or talking with friends can help your brain stay healthy and focused.
By making small changes, like turning off notifications or scheduling specific times for TikTok, users can still enjoy the app without taking over their attention. .
