Read the following passage and choose the correct answer to each of the questions.

Danger in the sea

Imagine swimming in clear water and never seeing the danger beside you. That's the truth about the sea wasp, a creature more deadly than any shark. It lives in tropical waters near Australia, and since 1980, it has killed about 80 people there, mostly children. Surprisingly, sharks have killed far fewer people in Australia than this small, silent killer.

The sea wasp is a type of jellyfish, and its body is almost invisible in water. It can grow bigger than a human head, with tentacles stretching up to three meters. Inside those tentacles is a powerful poison, strong enough to kill a person in five minutes. Even a small sea wasp can be deadly to a child.

Because of this danger, people leave the sea at once when sea wasps appear. Anyone who must enter the water wears protective clothing. Fortunately, doctors now know how to treat the stings, so fewer people die from them today.

What is the main idea of the passage?

  • Australia's dangerous sharks

  • Swimming in tropical waters

  • Treating poisonous stings

  • A deadly, unseen sea creature

Which of the following is NOT mentioned about the sea wasp?

  • It has killed mainly children.
  • Its venom works in minutes.
  • It swims faster than a shark.

  • Its tentacles can be very long.

The word "silent" in the passage is closest in meaning to _______.

  • deaf

  • mute

Read the following text and do the task.

It was raining heavily last Sunday afternoon, so my sister Lily came into my room and asked, "What should we do inside today, Sam?"

I looked around and suggested, "Let's build a giant fort in the living room!"

Lily loved the idea. First, we placed two heavy chairs together to support the roof. I originally wanted to cover them with a thick blanket, but Mum came in and recommended using a light sheet instead so it wouldn't collapse. Once the fort was ready, we crawled inside and turned on a small flashlight to read our favorite comic books. Just before we fell asleep, Lily brought a plate of chocolate cookies for us to share. It turned out to be a fun rainy day!

Fill each blank in the following summary with ONE WORD from the text.

Last Sunday, it was raining heavily, so Sam and Lily decided to build a fort indoors instead of playing outside. Although Sam originally planned to use a heavy for the roof, they used a light sheet on their mum's advice so it wouldn't collapse. Inside the fort, they turned on a small to help them read their comic books. Just before they fell asleep, they enjoyed some together.
