The country is more beautiful than a town and pleasant to live in. Many people think so and go to the country for the summer holidays though they can not live there all the year round. Some have a cottage built in a village so that they can go there whenever they can find the time.

English villages are not all alike, but in some ways, they are not very different from one another. Almost every village has a church, the round or square tower of which can be seen from many miles around. Surrounding the church is the churchyard where people are buried.

The Village Green is a wide stretch of grass, and houses or cottages are built around it. Country life is now fairly comfortable and many villages have the water brought through pipes into the house. Most villages are so close to some small towns that people can go there to buy what they can't find in the village shops.

Read the following passage.

How many hours a day do you watch television? How many hours a week? Most children watch way too much television.

Television is also not good for children because many shows are too violent. There aren't very many shows at night that could be considered children's shows. Many shows that are made for adults are shown during the time when children are watching television. It is not good for children to see so much violence. Some researchers say that watching this kind of program on television leads some children to do violent things in real life.

Many children say that there is nothing to do but watch television. This just isn't true. Children can go on walks, take a bike ride, or learn how to cook. They can play a game, do their homework, play jump rope, and do jumping jacks. They can also play soccer, basketball, football, or dance. There are so many things to do and so little time. Children should turn off the television because they are missing out on too much fun!

Fill each blank in the following sentences with ONE word from the text.

Children are likely to use violence on a daily basis after seeing programs.

Children spend too much time watching TV because they think they have to do except for watching TV.

Children can take part in other activities to have rather than watching TV.
