Read the following passage and choose the best answer for each blank.

London is one of the largest cities in the world. Its population is a lot smaller than Tokyo or Shanghai, but it is by far the most popular tourist destination. London is probably most famous its museums, galleries, palaces, and other sights, but it also includes a wider range of peoples, cultures, and religions than many places. People used to say that it was the dirtiest city too, it is now much cleaner than it was. To the surprise of many people, it now has some of the best restaurants in Europe too. For some people, this makes London the most exciting city in Europe.

Singapore is a small city-state in Southern Asia. It is a lovely place to visit. The are quite close to each other, so travelling between them is convenient. The food here is varied - all kinds of Asian food. The outdoor food markets are fun and affordable. You order your food and it is cooked right before you. Then you go and eat it at a table outside. It's a great way to meet people. But what I like most about Singapore is that it is - Chinese, Malay, Indian, European, and Vietnamese. For me, that's the best thing about Singapore.

Fill in each blank with ONE best word.

Bungee jumping

Have you ever tried bungee jumping? you haven't, then my advice is don't.

I almost tried it last year on holiday Indonesia because my best friend, who I was traveling with, had done it and suggested that I should try it. I had to jump from a great height with an elastic rope attached to my ankle. I guess I was really curious about what it like to jump off something so high, knowing that you will not hit the ground (or, in my case, water) below, as we were going to do the jump over a lake.

However, I personally will never know as I was scared when I got up to the top of the rock that nobody could persuade me to jump. I'm not sure if you have to be crazy or brave to actually do the jump, but I've decided that bungee jumping is not a sport for me.

Read the passage and answer the questions.

Narwhals are a kind of whale that not many people have ever seen. That's because they live in the coldest waters on Earth, the Arctic Ocean. This sea water is so cold that much of it has turned into ice. Narwhals eat fish that live on the ocean floor and can dive 1,500 meters to find their prey. It's very cold down there, but the narwhal's body is built to withstand extremely cold temperatures.

Narwhals are smaller than other whales but they are still large. They can weigh up to 1,600 kilograms and are 4 to 5 meters long. They are usually white and black colored. As they get older, their skin gets lighter. Narwhals have something very special. Each narwhal has a tusk that grows straight out into a spear. These tusks can be over 2 meters long. These long, sharp tusks make the narwhal look much longer than it is.

Narwhals have been used as food by people for a long time. For native people in the Far North called Inuits, they are a good source of fat during the cold winters. Inuit people used to hunt them with spears from small boats. Now, they have a different way of hunting them. Many use modern motorboats to chase them and rifles to kill them. When a narwhal is caught, the entire whale including its tusk is used. The narwhal's tusk is a very valuable possession.

What is the main topic of the passage?

  • Life in the Arctic Ocean
  • Ancient Inuits' hunting habits
  • Value of narwhal whales' tusks
  • The narwhal whale in the Arctic Ocean

According to the passage, what do narwhals eat?

  • Plants that grow near the ice
  • Animals living on polar ice caps
  • Organisms that are good at diving
  • Animals that live on the bottom of the sea

What do narwhals NOT look like?

  • Whales with long spears
  • Animals with white and black skin
  • Dolphins with long sword-like tails
  • Sea mammals with very heavy bodies

Why are "Inuits" mentioned in the passage?

  • To show who use narwhals as food
  • To explain how they like to use the narwhal tusks
  • To give an example of people who worship the narwhal
  • To prove they were the first people to write about narwhals

What can be inferred about the narwhal's tusk?

  • It is very heavy.
  • It is worth a lot of money.
  • It has special powers.
  • People do not like to keep them.
