Emma’s Blog
Last summer holiday, my family and I visited Lake District, a beautiful national park in the northwest of England. We drove there from London, and it took us about six hours. The journey was long but totally worth it.
The Lake District is well-known for its stunning lakes, green hills, and peaceful countryside. It’s a great place for walking, cycling, and enjoying nature. We stayed in a cozy cottage near Windermere, the largest lake in the area. One morning, we took a boat trip across the lake and admired the breathtaking views. We also hiked up Orrest Head and saw the whole lake from above. It was not too difficult, and the scenery was amazing.
One of the highlights of our trip was visiting Hill Top, the former home of Beatrix Potter, the famous children’s writer. We learned about her life and saw her lovely garden. In the evenings, we tasted delicious local food like roast lamb and sticky toffee pudding.
This trip was both relaxing and exciting. It helped us get closer to nature and spend quality time as a family. I’ll never forget the peaceful mornings by the lake and the fresh air of the countryside.

Sports and Culture: Jamaica and Cuba
JAMAICA
Are you looking for beautiful beaches, friendly people, and amazing music? Then come to Jamaica! If you love sport, remember that Jamaica is famous for cricket. Because of the island's great weather, cricket lovers can enjoy this sport all year round. The British originally brought cricket to Jamaica when it was a colony. After Jamaica became independent, the people continued to play at a very high level. To learn more about this history, visit the Sports Museum in Kingston. Interestingly, in international matches, Jamaica does not compete as a single country. Instead, they join Barbados and other small islands to form a team called the "West Indies", which is one of the world's best.
CUBA
In Cuba, baseball is more than just a game; it is a symbol of freedom. It all started in the 1860s when two Cuban brothers returned home from a university in the USA, bringing baseball equipment with them. The sport quickly became popular across the island. During the war for independence, Spanish authorities tried to stop the game. They noticed that Cubans began to prefer baseball over bullfighting, which was the traditional Spanish sport. By choosing baseball, Cubans showed that they did not want the Spanish to tell them what to do. Today, a special exhibition in Cuba tells this story of how baseball became a national symbol. It opens tomorrow and runs for two months!
Jamaica plays under its own name in all international cricket competitions.
The British were responsible for introducing cricket to the island of Jamaica.
The "West Indies" is the name of a single country located in the Caribbean.
Baseball was brought to Cuba by students who had studied abroad.
Spanish authorities tried to ban baseball because they preferred bullfighting.
