Read the following passage and decide if the sentences are True or False.

Would you like a robot in your house? It is now generally accepted that in the future, robots will take over many of our tasks, especially jobs of a repetitive nature. But it is doubtful if robots will ever be able to do any of the more creative types of work - or indeed if people would want them to do. In the home, robots would probably be used to do the cleaning, table-laying, scrubbing and washing up, but it is considered unlikely so far that they will be used to do the cooking - at least not in the near future. Robots in the home might not be creative enough to do the cooking, plan the meals, and so on. They would be used as slaves, freeing people to do more of the things they want.

It is thought that robots will be able to do the same jobs every day.

It is certain that robots will be able to help us with creative tasks.

Robots will help us carry out some of the housework such as washing dishes.

In the near future, robots will be used to do such things as cooking.

Robots will have to do what people want as servants.

Read the passage and answer the questions.

A blizzard is a snowstorm that has strong winds. Usually, these winds are greater than 56 kilometers an hour. Blizzards also last for at least three hours. These two conditions make it dangerous to be outside during a blizzard. Even if people are indoors, they are not completely safe from harm.

During a blizzard, it is very hard to see anything. This makes it risky to travel by car. Drivers may crash into things because they cannot see what is ahead of them. In addition, the mix of winds and snow makes roads very icy. Cars can easily slip and crash. Cars can also get stuck in a blizzard. Drivers may have to wait in their car in the cold for hours until help arrives. So, it is best to stay off the road when there is a blizzard.

However, blizzards can be harmful even when people stay indoors. Snow, winds, and ice can damage wires outside. This can shut off electricity and telephone lines. Pipes may freeze and burst. This can leave people without heat or water. If a blizzard is very bad, people may be trapped in their homes for days. That is why people should keep emergency supplies, such as food, bottled water, and batteries, in the house.
What is the passage mainly about?
  • How to prepare for a blizzard
  • What conditions cause a blizzard
  • Why a blizzard can be dangerous
  • Where people should go in a blizzard
What is NOT true about blizzards?
  • They make it hard to see.
  • They have very strong winds.
  • They last for at least three hours.
  • They have at least 56 cm of snow.

What causes car accidents during a blizzard?

  • Icy roads
  • Stuck cars
  • Drivers who become cold
  • Too many cars on the road
What is NOT an example of a blizzard emergency supply?
  • food
  • water
  • wires
  • batteries
