These days, it's hard to imagine the Internet without YouTube. People use it to watch everything from music videos to cooking tutorials, and most of us have never really thought about how it started. But YouTube hasn't always been around — in fact, it began with one young man's simple frustration.

In 2004, a man named Jawed Karim was looking online for videos of the tsunami in Southeast Asia. He found plenty of news stories about it, but he couldn't find a single video. This gave him an idea. He used his money and experience to create a new company called Youniversity Ventures. This company gives advice and funding to young people who have good business ideas, especially ideas for Internet businesses. Milo, a shopping website that helps people find products in stores near their homes, is one business that got started with its help.

Karim's advice to anyone who wants to start a business is straightforward: find a company that has already succeeded, study how it works and who runs it, and then try to do things the same way. For students dreaming of building an Internet company, Karim himself is probably a pretty good example to follow.
