Read the passage and answer the questions below.

Why Teens Need More Sleep Than You Think

Many parents complain that their teenage children stay up too late and refuse to wake up early, and they often think teens are simply lazy. However, scientists have found significant evidence that teenagers actually need more sleep than adults. The recommended amount is around nine hours each night, which is far more than most teens get.

Sleep researchers claim that the teenage body clock works differently from an adult's. During the teen years, the brain releases a chemical called melatonin much later in the evening. This means that most teens do not feel sleepy until around 11 p.m. Because of this natural change, asking a teenager to fall asleep at 9 p.m. is almost impossible.

The problem becomes worse when school starts early in the morning. A teenager who falls asleep at midnight and wakes up at 6 a.m. only gets six hours of rest. Over time, this builds up into what experts call "sleep debt." Students who carry considerable sleep debt often struggle to focus in class, and their test scores may drop.

Some schools in the United States have already changed their schedules so that students can sleep longer. They now start classes at 8:30 a.m. instead of 7:30 a.m. The results have been remarkable. Teachers report that students are more alert. Accident rates among teen drivers have also decreased.

Although technology is sometimes blamed, the real cause is biology. If parents understand this fact, they may stop arguing with their teenagers every morning. Teens are not lazy — their bodies are simply following a different clock.

TRACKING WILD ANIMALS

Wild animals often travel across the world to find food or warmer weather. In the past, it was very hard for humans to study these amazing journeys. , modern technology has completely changed this. Today, scientists use small GPS devices to follow different animals, like birds, bears, and sea turtles. These tiny trackers help researchers to important information about where the animals go every day. When one tracker breaks, it is usually easy to put a new device on animal in the same group. By using this useful data, experts can quickly which areas of the ocean or forest need the most help. This means that countries can finally action to protect the environment. Thanks to technology, we can understand and save our wildlife better than ever before.
