One day last week, Jim got up and went to work. He put on his trousers, shirt, and jacket very quietly because his family wasn't awake. Then he went to the bathroom, had a shower, and cleaned his 17.1. He went downstairs to the kitchen, made a cup of 17.2 and ate some bread and cheese. Then he picked up his bag and 17.3 to work on his bike. He was surprised because the street was very quiet. There were no cars or people there. Jim worked at the library, but when he tried to open the 17.4 of the library, he couldn't. A man with a dog stopped to talk to him. 'It's Sunday, you know!' he said. 'The library isn't open today!' Jim 17.5. 'Oh, great!' he said, 'I can go back to bed!'

The Library

The library is a good place to be on a wet day. You can find the answers to all your questions there. When you want to know 18.1 about the world you live in, there are a lot of books to read. You can learn about mountains, rivers, animals or the stars.

You can 18.2 the books home with you for three weeks. The library is a great place to do your homework 18.3 it is always very quiet so try 18.4 to talk loudly when you are there.

Some libraries have a shop and you can buy things 18.5 pens and maps there. There's sometimes a cafe. Try to go to the library more often!

Look at the pictures and read the story. Write some words to complete the sentences about the story. You can use 1, 2 or 3 words.

Cloud and the lost scarf

Julia's home was in the countryside. One day, Julia and her black and grey dog, Cloudy, went for a long walk in the forest. They saw a white rabbit. It hopped behind some tall grass, and Cloudy quickly ran to try to catch it.
'Naughty dog! Come back here!' shouted Julia. Cloudy came back but there was something white in its mouth. 'Oh no!' Julia thought.

Examples:

Questions:

1. Cloudy tried 19.1 the rabbit.

But it wasn't the rabbit. It was a beautiful white scarf! Cloudy dropped it on the ground and Julia picked it up. 'This scarf looks new. I must try to find the person who lost it,' she thought.
Julia put the scarf round her neck and walked slowly back home. 'Cloudy!' she called, 'Come on! Good dog!'

Julia opened the door and saw her Aunt Daisy and Mum in the hall.
'Hello, Aunt Daisy!' she said and took off her coat. 'Look, Mum. Cloudy found this scarf on our walk.'
Aunt Daisy looked very surprised. 'That's my scarf,' she said. 'I bought it yesterday morning, then I lost it in the afternoon when I went for a walk.'
Julia gave her aunt the scarf.
'Thank you!' Aunt Daisy said. 'And thank you too, Cloudy!'

5. Julia's 19.5 was in the hall with Mum when Julia went home.
6. Aunt Daisy was 19.6 when she saw the white scarf.
7. Aunt Daisy said 'thank you' to Julia and to 19.7 too.
