Amelia and her cards
I recently met Amelia, from Brighton, England, and her father, David. Amelia is still only 13 but she's already got her own online business! It all started with a hobby that Amelia has had since she was very small - taking photographs. "l was three when my grandmother gave me my first toy camera," she says. "It was so easy to use and I loved going out into the garden and pushing my camera close to a beautiful flower. I wasn't interested in taking photos of the family!"
When Amelia was older, she won a digital camera in her first photography competition and she began to make birthday cards with her photos. David started a website for her so she could sell them online. She was so pleased!
Then she asked some school friends to help her make the cards in their spare time. "Of course I gave them part of what we got from selling the cards, so everyone was pleased!" she explains. I think a lot of people could learn from Amelia about how to have a successful business!

Read the passage from the school newspaper and answer the questions.
At this time of year, many students feel anxious while they wait to find out their exam scores. l am too concerned about exam scores. This makes me think that all the stress they cause is bad for our health. In my opinion schools should focus less on other ways of learning.
It is important to ask what are exams really for? The teachers tell us that exams are for testing how much we have learned personally. I think that exams mostly just test how well people take exams! It seems that those who get high scores are good at taking exams, but they are not always the best students. They may be good at studying details and memorizing facts but that does not mean they are smartest students in the class.
I believe that students would learn more at school if they could focus on learning together with other students in class and with the teacher. The time we spend preparing for and taking exams could be spent sharing ideas, instead of memorizing facts also. If teachers gave students more of their time and attention they would know more about our learning abilities and not need to give us tests all the time.
Why did the student write the letter?
Why does the student think exams are bad for students' health?

The Grand Canyon is one of the world’s great natural wonders. It extends about 277 miles through northern Arizona. The Colorado River begins in the Rocky Mountains of northern Colorado. It flows for 1,450 miles through the base of the canyon it carved. It eventually empties into the Gulf of California, which is a part of the Pacific Ocean. It took this river billions of years to form the Grand Canyon. Slowly, it wore away the rock, exposing ancient rocks and fossil specimens. Rocks at the base are two billion years old, among the oldest found on Earth.
The Grand Canyon is more than a mile deep in some places. In width, it varies from four to eighteen miles. The top of the canyon is mostly flat. It is covered with a forest of oak, spruce, and pine trees. A few bushes and small pines cling to the walls of the cliffs. Bushes dot the canyon floor. Many different animals live in the Grand Canyon, including mountain lions, bighorn sheep, mule deer, and bobcats.
The Grand Canyon was the site of two different mountain ranges that rose and were worn away during the long period of its existence. At times, ancient seas flowed in from the oceans. The rock walls contain remains of prehistoric plants and animals from both land and sea. For scientists studying Earth’s natural history, the Grand Canyon is a giant laboratory.
