Read the following passage and choose the best answer for each blank.

NEIGHBORS INFLUENCE BUYING DECISIONS

However objective we believe ourselves to be, most of us do not judge a product solely on its merits, considering quality, value, and style before making a decision. , we are easily influenced by the people around us.

There is nothing wrong with this. It is probably a smarter way to make decisions than relying on only our own opinions. But it does make life hard for companies. They have long understood that groups of friends and relatives tend to buy the same products, but understanding the reasons has been . It is because they are so similar with to how much money they make and what television ads they watch that they independently arrive at the same decision? Or do they copy one another, perhaps out of envy or perhaps because they have shared information about the products?

Research in Finland recently found overwhelming evidence that neighbors have a big influence on buying decisions. When one of a person’s ten nearest neighbors bought a car, the chances that that person would buy a car of the same brand during the next week and a half by 86 percent. The researchers argued that it was not just a matter of envy. Used cars seemed neighbors even more than new cars. This suggested that people were not trying to keep up their neighbors, they were keen to learn from them. Since used cars are less reliable, a recommendation of one can strongly influence a buying decision.

Read the following passage and do the tasks.

Three miles across the water from Blascott lies the Ferndigs, a group of islands with St. Michael as the main island and St. Margaret as its little sister. People first lived on these islands 1500 years ago. By the 1950s, the population had gone down to below twenty, and in 1960 the last person left. However, in 1991, two families returned, and more have followed. Tourists now visit regularly for the scenery.

The islands have a unique shop selling locally produced butter, cheese, and bread. These delicacies also find their way to Blascott's restaurants. Additionally, the island's wildflowers and herbs are used to craft unique perfumes, primarily for export. A visit to the shop is a must for a unique island experience.

St. Michael Island is ideal for exploration on foot, but, in the interests of safety, visitors are requested to keep to the main footpaths. A recommended route is to follow the cliff from the boat landing to a steep path leading to the church. Take a moment in the old church and then continue climbing to the island's highest point for a breathtaking coastal view. If the weather is pleasant, you can relax on Priory Beach on the eastern side, a safe spot for swimming. Standtop Bay on the eastern side is another sandy beach, but not recommended for swimming.

St. Margaret Island is smaller than St. Michael Island.
