Read the following passage and choose the correct answer to each of the questions.

Some doctors think that you should drink a glass of water each morning. You should drink this water first thing, before doing anything else. The temperature of the water should be similar to body temperature; neither too hot nor too cold.

Why should you drink this water? Water helps your body in many ways. It helps clean out your kidneys. It prepares your stomach for digestion. Water can also help your intestines work better. After drinking water, the intestines can more easily take out nutrients from our food. Water also helps us go to the bathroom more easily.

Scientists suggest that people take in 1,600 milliliters of water each day. But don't drink all of that water in one sitting. If you do, your kidneys will have to work much harder to eliminate it. It's better to drink some in the morning and some in the afternoon. Some people think it's better to drink between meals and not during meals. They think water dilutes the juices produced in our stomachs. This can interfere with normal digestion.

Are you drinking enough water every day? Check the color of your urine. If it is light yellow, you are probably drinking enough. If your urine is very dark yellow, you probably need to drink more water. A little more water each day could make you much healthier.

What is the main idea of the passage?

For me, every weekday begins the same: I get up at 7.00. I have breakfast, I take the bus to school, I go to lessons. I don't hate this daily routine, but it isn't very thrilling. In the evenings, however, I drive Formula 1 cars, build enormous cities and defend my planet against aliens. In short, I play computer games. It's like entering a different world. That's why I love playing them so much.

(2)
My interest in computer games has taught me a lot about computer graphics. I want to study computing at college, and learn how to design and program games. Eventually, I'd like to start my own software company, creating and testing new games. That way, I could spend all day doing what I love most.

Some of my friends from school are interested in computer games too. We normally meet at my house in the evenings and play for a few hours. We sometimes play at weekends, but if the weather's good I prefer to go cycling or play basketball instead.

(5)
I first became interested in computer games about four years ago. I was staying with my cousin for the weekend. He had some games and he taught me how to play them. I became hooked immediately! When I got home, I decided to save all my money for buying games. Now I've got about twenty different games.

Passage (3)

Passage (4)

Passage (5)

Read the passage and decide if the following statements are TRUE or FALSE.

Isn't it amazing how much time we spend talking about food? "Have you ever eaten...?", "What did you have for lunch?" and so on. And yet when you travel from one country to another, you find that people have quite different feelings about food. People often feel that what they eat is normal, and that what other people eat is strange or silly.

In most parts of Asia, for example, no meal is complete without rice. In England, people eat potatoes every day. In the Middle East, bread is the main part of every meal. Eating, like so many things we do, becomes a habit which is difficult to change. Americans like to drink a lot of orange juice and coffee. The English drink tea four or five times every day. Australians drink a large amount of beer and the French drink wine every day.

The sort of meat people like to eat also differs from one country to another. Horse meat is thought to be delicious in France. In Hong Kong, some people enjoy eating snakes. New Zealanders eat sheep meat, but they never eat goat meat. The Japanese don't like to eat sheep meat because of its smell, but they enjoy raw fish.

So, it seems that although eating is a topic that we can talk about for hours, there is little common sense in what we say about it. People everywhere enjoy eating what they have always been eating, and there is very little we can do to change our eating habits.

The text is mainly about some special dishes in the world.
