The Giong Festival is an age-old tradition in Vietnam to commemorate Saint Giong. According to legendary, Saint Giong is one of the greatest heroes who defeated the Yin invaders successfully. The local people admire him and then made a temple to celebrate festivals each year. There are 2 celebrations of Giong Saint annually. The first one is held in Phu Dong Temple and the second one is held in Soc Temple. At Phu Dong Temple, the festival starts on the 8th and 9th day of the 4th lunar month while at Soc Temple, it begins from the 6th to 8th of the 1st lunar month.

During the Giong Festival, festival goers gather to pay respects and celebrate the hero's legacy. The festival has many different ceremonies and rituals. Decorative altars are full with offerings of fruits, flowers, and symbolic items. People pray and worship to show their respect for Saint Giong and seek blessings as well as chase away bad spirits. The festival organizes some folk games such as cock fighting, stilt walking and breaking earthen pots. Skilled contestants perform martial arts routines with complex acrobatics. These performances symbolize the hero's strength and courage.
