One of the most beautiful parts of Britain is the Lake District. The Lake District is situated in the north-west of England and consists high hills, mountains and, of course, lakes. In all, there are 16 lakes, of which the largest is Lake Windermere. Over the years writers have been associated with this region but there can be no doubt that the most famous of all was William Wordsworth who was born and lived almost the whole of his life there. He had close with the village of Grasmere, where he lived for some thirteen years. He loved this particular part of England and many of his poems of the joy he felt when surrounded by beautiful countryside

Every year more than 14 million people from Britain and abroad visit the Lake District to enjoy the fresh air and the scenery. Some go to walk in the mountains while others sailboats on the lakes or simply sit admiring the views. Unfortunately, the region is becoming a victim of its own success in attracting visitors. So many people come to the Lake District that they threaten to destroy the peace and quiet many are searching for there.

Read the passage and choose the correct answer.

SPACE HOLIDAY

Are you thinking of going on holiday in space? Well, you may not be able to go to the Moon, but you could consider a space tour! This kind of ‘holiday’ allows people to stay in space in a space station. Of course, it is very expensive and you’d have to be a millionaire to afford it!

First of all, it costs 30 million dollars! Secondly, there’s a pretty long waiting list - there are no free places for some years. Finally, you have to be very fit and healthy and do a lot of training to prepare yourself before you can go on this kind of holiday.

So, why do people want to travel in space? Well, the answer seems to be the excitement and the fun of seeing Earth from above. Astronauts have described the view of Earth from space as absolutely breathtaking.

While space tourism remains a dream for most, the growing interest is not limited to space alone. Many people also hunt for unique tours which include space-like experiences. Unlike a traditional package holiday, they offer an incredible experience, though it's estimated that the expenses for them are much more higher.

What is the passage mainly about?

  • The history of space exploration
  • The requirements for becoming an astronaut
  • The concept of space tourism and its challenges

The word “breathtaking” in paragraph 3 is closest in meaning to _____.

  • dangerous
  • disappointing

  • regular

Why are many people looking for space-like tours?

  • Because they are afraid of the risk of real space tours.
  • Because they want to be the first to do something new.

  • Because they want to have unique travel experiences.
