Adventure Holidays

A. Turkey
The small fishing town of Kas is a great place for action and adventure in the outdoors, and this holiday really proves it. Designed with teenagers in mind, there is never a dull moment. The package includes trips sailing, diving, snorkeling and rock climbing.

B. Slovakia
Join an important Slovakian wildlife project. Working with expert guides, you will search for bears, wolves and wildcats. Accommodation is in simple mountain cottages. The work that you do here will help keep the populations of animals healthy.

C. Nepal
After exploring the traditions and culture of the capital, Kathmandu, we'll travel into the Himalayas, going on foot into some remote villages. The trip finishes in Chitwan National Park, where we will explore the jungle by elephant. This holiday is suitable for either groups or individuals traveling on their own, and many friendships have been made on our holidays.

D. Dominican Republic
If you've never tried surfing before and want to have some lessons, then this is the perfect place to do it. Accommodation is very basic, but that helps keep the cost down. As well as surfing, there's the Jungle nearby and the nightlife is very lively.

E. France
Your holiday begins with a canoe trip down the Ardéche river, to see the local wildlife and amazing views of the valley. Later in the week, we'll explore the area on horseback and try some rock climbing. We'll also visit the medieval city of Avignon to look at the city's magnificent buildings and bridges. 

F. Thailand
After spending time in one of the region's oldest rainforests, you'll receive a warm welcome as the guests of a rural village. Your work here could involve teaching in the local school, building a health center or helping the elderly collect water. The nearby beaches are beautiful, and perfect for quiet restful days.

G. The Canary Islands
The aim of this holiday is to provide a safe and enjoyable introduction to the sport of kiteboarding. Accommodation is in a brand-new luxury apartment block, a short walk from the beach. This trip is great for those traveling alone or with friends.

H. Egypt
This trip to the Red Sea allows you to create your own perfect holiday. You can choose how you spend your days - join one of our groups riding a camel in the desert, go diving (if you have a qualification), rent a bike, or simply find a quiet spot on the beach to read your book.

Simon and Jasmine like quiet, relaxing holidays but their teenage children prefer to be more active. They are looking for a holiday that will suit them all.


Alex has never tried a watersport and would like to do so on this holiday. He enjoys going out in the evening and would like to stay somewhere simple and inexpensive.


Samantha is studying to become an architect and enjoys holidays where she can follow this interest. She would also like to try some exciting outdoor activities.

Rock the planet

Music journalist Nick Hillman meets young actors from this popular musical show.

Rock the Planet, a musical show where actors also have to be really good musicians, opened in London last year, after five years in the USA, where it was voted 'Best Musical' four times! But doing the show with an all-British cast of actors was challenging. The UK puts more limits on how many performances young actors can do weekly - in the USA, they're allowed to do more shows. Because of this, twice as many actors were required here. Luckily, the director found plenty of talented UK-based actors, and they've just won their first 'Best Musical' award. Although the theatre in London is bigger than the US venue, it's been full every night, with everyone wanting to hear the songs that first became popular in America.

I met 11-year-old Jamie, one of the show's actors. 'It's brilliant that I get paid to play,' he said, 'especially a beautiful and expensive Gibson guitar.' He told me how busy the young actors are. 'We have normal school lessons each day at the theatre. While the teacher's great, I miss my old schoolmates.' And what do they think of the show? 'Well, my whole class came! The theatre does special deals on tickets for schools. They absolutely loved it and that made me feel really confident. My parents come when they can, but it's expensive for them,' he explained.

When I said I also play guitar, Jamie found a spare one and invited me to play along with him and the other young actors. We played Days, a song I wasn't familiar with. Jamie took me through it and I was very pleased with myself when I finally got it right. I was impressed by Jamie's ability and wished I had similar skills. I was just trying to keep up and was glad the show's director wasn't there to hear my mistakes!

While the young actors were already musicians, with some playing several instruments, none had played in a band before. Fortunately, they've found it pretty easy. Jamie admitted that the hard part was appearing natural when they first performed together. They were concentrating so much that they forgot to smile!

The show's on in London for another year and is well worth seeing.

How I dealt with stress

1. For months I'd been unable to relax and I felt awful. I worried about things, I wasn't sleeping well and I couldn't concentrate on my work in the office. Then my best friend told me that everyone thought I was always in a bad mood.

2. I began by making some simple changes to my routine. Each morning when I woke up, I thought about things I was looking forward to so that I started the day in a more positive mood. I kept doing that until it became a habit. I also knew I should do more exercise but to tell the truth, I don't enjoy doing sports. That really helped me to relax, particularly when I learned to concentrate on enjoying the experience rather than let negative thoughts go through my mind.

3. I changed the way I worked, too. I used to answer every email as soon as it came in, but this meant that I kept stopping and starting work, and I could only make slow progress which made me feel really stressed. Nowadays, I leave most messages until later in the day and reply to any urgent ones only when I take a break. I do this every 40 minutes or so, usually for no more than ten minutes.

4. I've also discovered some great anti-stress apps such as Headspace, Pacifica, and Calm. Apps like these have breathing exercises, relaxing sounds such as the ocean, rain, or streams, and suggestions for making changes in your daily life to help you relax. Some of the apps are free.

5. Last month I read an article which said people with a good sense of humor are usually happier and more relaxed. Having fun with friends or watching your favorite comedy series are easy ways to achieve this. And when you aren't stressed, it can make it much easier to do your job!

The Cannes Film Festival

The Cannes Film Festival is the most famous film festival in the world. a film is presented there, it is immediately famous. The festival is also where some of the film industry's most important business takes place and where many actors and directors stars.

The began in 1939 when the French government decided to have an international festival. They chose Cannes, is in southern France because it is a sunny and beautiful town. In fact, Cannes was already seen as a fashionable place to go. The festival was put until after the war and finally took place on September 20, 1946. At , the festival was mainly a tourist and a social event. However, as more and more films were shown, it was seen as something much more important. Today it has become the most important event of the year for the film industry.
