Những điều cần biết về thể bị động kép trong tiếng Anh
1. Bị động kép - Double passive voice là gì?
Trong ngữ pháp tiếng Anh truyền thống, bị động kép là câu/mệnh đề chứa 2 động từ ở thể bị động. Trong đó, động từ thứ hai là động từ nguyên thể có "to" ở dạng bị động.
Ví dụ:
- They ordered the man to be shot
→ The man was ordered to be shot. - The city has scheduled the building to be demolished next week.
→ The building is scheduled to be demolished next week.
2. Một số lưu ý quan trọng
Theo một số chuyên gia ngữ pháp, một số thể bị động kép được nhận xét là “kỳ quặc”, thiếu tự nhiên, không đúng ngữ pháp.
Ví dụ:
- Illumination is required to be distinguished. (câu này theo đánh giá là nghe có vẻ “chuẩn chỉnh” nhưng khó hiểu)
- The runaway horse was attempted to be stopped by the policeman. (câu này được đánh giá là sai ngữ pháp, thể hiện sự vụng về khi tạo câu)
Tuy nhiên, trên thực tế, thể bị động kép vẫn có thể được sử dụng.

Trong nhiều trường hợp, nếu có thể, nên sử dụng thể chủ động.
Ví dụ:
- The order was attempted to be carried out. (không nên dùng) > They attempted to carry out the order.
- No greater thrill can be hoped to be enjoyed. (không nên dùng) > We can hope to enjoy no greater thrill.
