Đề bài: Parents often give children everything they ask for and do what they like. Is it good for children? What are the consequences when they grow up?

Bài viết tham khảo:

Indulging children has become a common parenting problem in many modern families. From a short-term perspective, this practice may slow down the process of children developing essential life skills. From a long-term standpoint, this may cause a sense of overdependence among children.

In the short term, it is possible that over-indulgence causes some delay to the process in which children learn important life skills. This can be seen in a variety of age groups, ranging from toddlers to teenagers. In Vietnam, for example, many over-caring parents spoon-feed their children until they are five or six, the developmental stage in which they should have already been able to eat independently. There is a common practice that parents assist their preadolescent children in taking a bath or a shower. These children, as a result, may fail to acquire basic personal hygiene skills at the right time.

In the long run, the consequences are even direr as over-indulged children grow up. If parents satisfy all the needs of their children unconditionally, they may inadvertently make the children become over-reliant on them. When these children enter adulthood, the inability to live independently can cause some difficulties for them to maintain their overall well-being, such as not knowing what to do when they catch a fever. It is also a problem that over-indulgent parents are often lenient and do not require children to face the consequences of their misbehaviour. This deprives children of the opportunities to learn from mistakes, which may cause their problem-solving skills to be severely lacking in the future.

From the issues outlined above, one can conclude that overindulgence may produce a number of unfavourable effects on children, including the delay in gaining crucial life skills such as self-feeding and the long-term consequence of lacking the ability to cope with problems as adults in the future. It is recommended that no parents should overindulge their offspring.

Đề bài: Nowadays some employers think that formal academic qualifications are more important than life experience or personal qualities when they look for new employees. Why is this the case? Is it a positive or negative development?

Bài viết tham khảo:

More and more employers these days are recruiting new staff based on qualifications rather than on personal experience and values. There is one main reason for this trend, and it has both negative and positive impacts.

Clearly, in today’s job market, formal academic qualifications can be valued over life experience and personal qualities for one major reason. While the experience and personality one has may be hard for a recruiter to assess, degrees and certificates are reliable indicators of whether that person fits the position. For example, in fields such as IT where a strong relevant background is necessary, applicants with qualifications in programming often impress employers more than those who only possess good life skills or personal traits.

In fact this trend is either positive or negative development. On the one hand, this trend leads to young people focusing on gaining more qualifications, which means they need to work harder if they wish to leave school with a good degree. This is particularly beneficial because the huge amount of knowledge gained when preparing for school exams can be helpful for their working life at a later stage. On the other hand, such an exam-focused education system can be negative in the sense that many students might try to gain two or three degrees at the expense of life experience and personal values. This would be serious because examples of successful people who dropped out of university including Bill Gates and Mark Zuckerberg suggest that qualities such as acumen and confidence rather than degrees is vital.

In conclusion, compared with life experience and personal traits, qualifications are a better indicator for employers to assess potential employees. This trend can be either good or bad, depending on the way students prepare for working life.

Đề bài: Today many children spend a lot of time playing video games and little time on sports. Why is it? Is it a positive or negative development?

Bài viết tham khảo:

Video games have enjoyed increasing popularity as a good pastime activity among children in recent years. There are several reasons for this phenomenon, and I think it has both positive and negative impacts in equal measure.

The emergence of the video game industry is one reason attributable to the recent boom in video games among youngsters. Children in this day and age have a much wider array of video games to choose from than did their parents 20-30 years ago.

The irresistible lure of visually enhanced, epic fighting scenes, coupled with the sense of accomplishment upon clearing a level, may give young people the impression, often misleading, that it is a better leisure activity than exerting themselves in a gym.

Furthermore, to unfortunate people who do not lead a happy life, gaming denotes an element of escapism. Children who live in a dysfunctional family, for example, may consider games as a getaway from their harsh reality.

Gaming can be either beneficial and detrimental to young gamers. If played judiciously, games are a harmless fun that can improve a child’s mental agility. Many children have demonstrated abilities to make quick decisions and react quickly to unexpected situations, for they have been trained through many missions and levels in-game.

However, if gamers are becoming too addicted and sacrifice sports time for playing games, gaming can be very harmful to their health. The rise in obesity in recent years has been closely correlated with the sedentary lifestyle caused by excessive gaming and lack of exercise.

In conclusion, the increase in gaming and the decline in exercising stem from the development of the game industry and the need to escape from the drudgery and hardship in life.

Games can be either advantageous or potentially dangerous, depending on whether gamers make use of them or abuse them.

Đề bài: Many developing countries are currently expanding their tourist industries. Why is this the case? Is it a positive development?

Bài viết tham khảo:

More developing countries are improving their tourism industries. Personally, I argue that this is a result of the improvement in the aviation industry, and it is on the whole, not a positive development; this is because the inevitable result of the rise of tourist industries is the corruption of local cultures in an attempt to appeal to tourists.

As production technology improves, it is now cheaper than ever to manufacture planes, diminishing the cost of international travel to developing countries. Technological improvements decrease the dependency upon human labor, which is often more expensive in the long run than machines for producing products such as airplanes. Furthermore, ascompanies grow, they acquire economies of scale, which mean that the average cost of producing each unit decreases. This culminates in aviation companies such as Boeing being able to create vast quantities of planes every year, and flight agencies being able to offer flights to more far-fetched locations.

However, I argue that this rise in tourism to developing countries inevitably forces unwanted constraints on the locals as expectations of their cultural impact how many people come to visit and spend their disposable income on the local tourist industry, and as time goes on, the culture becomes performative and begins to lose its significance. Local populations, due to the imposition from markets, have to modify traditional customs in order to please foreign visitors, over time leaving behind a destination of little authenticity. “Overcommercialization" of cities is a recent yet prevalent phenomenon that can actually hurt the tourism industry in the long run.

Overall, I argue that although mass travel to developing countries has diminished significantly as a byproduct of cheaper plane production, it has brought with it the overwhelmingly negative effect of cultural erosion on these nations.

Đề bài: Nowadays people live longer after they retire. How does this affect individuals and society? What can be done about this?

Bài viết tham khảo:

With the advancement of healthcare, people now live way long after their retirement age. This means that laborers are retiring too soon these days, causing some adverse effects on both individuals and society. Luckily, there are some ways to tackle this problem.

Retiring when one is still physically and mentally sound means that one is prone to negative feelings after retirement. For example, especially when they are the key member of the staff, people usually feel left out or being redundant when they retire while still having the ability to contribute. Society would also experience a loss from having people retire when people are still capable of doing their jobs. For example, in industries where experiences are more valuable than qualifications, like in academia, having a professor retire when he or she can still teach is a waste of major human resource, as he or she is the most capable person for teaching.

However, the government and businesses can and have carried multiple solutions to lessen the effects of this issue. The first measure is gradually lifting the retirement age. The government is implementing this solution by increasing the retirement age by a few months every year. This can ensure that people retire when they are no longer fit for the job. A second solution is to offer positions that do not require constant time or physical effort to retired people. For example, many companies still offer retired employees the advisor position. Other retired employees from famous companies still find themselves giving motivational speeches to college students or fresh graduates as a way to become engaged after retirement.

In conclusion, having people retire when they are still capable is causing pressure to those individuals and society. However, there are many solutions to this problem that governments can adopt.

Đề bài: Competition for university study is becoming increasingly strong. Why are universities becoming more competitive? Is this a positive or negative development?

Bài viết tham khảo:

In recent years, it has been noticeable that the university entrance exam is getting increasingly competitive, and some have questioned why or whether this is a positive development. I believe there are two main reasons for this, and I don’t think this is either an entirely positive or negative phenomenon.

The first reason why attending tertiary education nowadays is more competitive than ever is due to the vast investment of parents into their children’s education. In the past, it was acceptable for a child to drop out of school to help with farming. However, most parents now want to ensure a better future for their kids, so they urge them to compete for a slot in the most prestigious university possible. The second reason why universities are getting harder to get into is simply because of the rising population of high schoolers. More universities should have been built to accommodate this demand from upcoming generations. However, because the rate of opening new colleges cannot compete with that of population rise, children would have to compete against one another for college admissions.

Regardless of the reason for this development, I do not see this as entirely positive nor negative. On the one hand, there are some benefits to this. Future generations will be more knowledgeable than the current ones. With an influx of fresh graduates equipped with high-level knowledge, the country can expect more technological developments. This can be seen from the growth of entrepreneurship in the technology industry. On the other hand, however, this intense competition will take a toll on both students and parents. More time will be spent studying for the exam, which equates to deteriorating physical and mental health of high schoolers. Parents are also affected by the mental and financial pressure of finding and paying for tutoring centers.

In conclusion, getting into colleges is more competitive due to children being more competitive and the population rising. Although I think this is a positive development for society, some measures are needed to prevent the ultimate burnout.

Đề bài: In some parts of the world it is increasingly popular to research the history of one’s own family. Why do people want to do this? Is it a positive or negative development?

Bài viết tham khảo:

With the development of technology, it is now more feasible for people to study the history of their ancestors. There are several rationales that encourage modern citizens to conduct this research. In my perspective, I assume that this may be a breakthrough movement of human beings to identify their roots which would be exemplified with some lucid examples during the course of this essay.

At first, tracing back the history of an important family can aid descendants in understanding thoroughly their ancestors as well as locate distant relatives. For instance, studying the bloodline may not only assist historians in identifying more information on the history of their countries but also help royal members locate their distant intimates. This would be particularly useful in countries with much turmoil in their recent history. Additionally, for ordinary yet extended families with hundreds of members, family tree research may be necessary in order to create a helpful graph that enables younger generations to recognise their forebears and roots.

Nevertheless, because not everyone can afford it, it is not always feasible for regular citizens to carry out this kind of research. In reality, conducting this kind of study sometimes necessitates spending a sizable sum of money to employ expert researchers and historical specialists. Additionally, it frequently requires a lot of time and resources, and few families have the patience to wait for the outcomes. Additionally, not every outcome can benefit a family and might have an impact on a person’s life. For example, in cases of having a notorious great grandparents, an individual could become more timid when mentioning their family heritage.

In conclusion, while I reckon that understanding a family’s history could provide essential knowledge that helps youngsters fully comprehend their ancestry, it is also important to take into account the obstacles that this might deliver.
