Adult Learners
Adult learners have many characteristics that distinguish them from school or college learners. Firstly, they come to courses with experiences and knowledge in diverse areas. They often prefer learning activities that enable them to draw on the skills and experience they have acquired. In the main, adults have realistic aims and have valuable into what is likely to be successful. , they are readily able to relate new facts to past experiences and enjoy having their talents explored in learning situations. Adults have established opinions and beliefs, have been formed over time through their experience of families, work, community, or politics.
A majority of adults also have motivation and their effort increases because of their desire to learn. They are also motivated by the relevance of the material to be addressed and learn better when the material is related to their own needs and interests.

Cell phones are an integrated part of our society at this point, and their main use is communication. They keep students in touch with the rest of the world by giving them the power to interact with it. In my day, if you forgot your lunch, you were at the mercy of the office calling home for you. Now, students have the ability to solve their own problems and handle certain "emergencies" on their own.
Cell phones also allow students the ability when the time is right, to keep in touch with students at other schools or friends that don't go to school. While not an educational benefit directly, better relationships can lead to higher self-esteem and reduce isolation, which is good for everybody. In the same way, camera phones allow students to capture the kinds of memories that help build a solid school culture, and, in some cases, can act as documentation of misbehavior in the same way that store cameras provide evidence and deter bad behavior.
Academically, the cell phone can act as to record video of a procedure of explanation that may need to be reviewed later. It could be used to record audio of a lecture, as well, for later review. And just imagine if class could be easily "taped" for students who are absent? What if they could even be streamed and seen from home instantly?
What does the passage mainly discuss?
The word "taped" in paragraph 3 is closet in meaning to _____.
In paragraph 1, the word "it" refers to ______.
According to the passage, cell phones do NOT ____.
According to the text, things that are recorded by camera phones can be used as _____.
Read the following passage then choose the best answer to each question below.
Astronomers have long used direct photography to gather a large of information from telescopes. To do this, they have special light-sensitive coatings on glass plates, whose size depends on the type of telescope employed. Certain wide-field telescopes commonly required very large glass plates. These plates do not bend, can be measured accurately, and can preserve information over a long period of time, providing a record that an astronomer at a later time can examine. However, even though long time exposures increase the amount of light striking the plate so that very faint objects in the sky eventually show up clearly, even the most sensitive plates convert only a small percent of the photons striking them into an image. For this reason, photography cannot make very efficient use of short-time exposures on a telescope. Despite this inefficiency, photography is still very useful because it works as a two-dimensional detector covering a large area at a telescope's focus. Hence, the information contained in a single photograph can be enormous, especially when the photograph is taken with wide-field telescopes.
Today, the technology of newer radio and X-ray telescopes has allowed astronomers to view images otherwise invisible to the eye, and direct photography is now used less often to gather images. Today's astronomers can study an enhanced view of a telescope's focus on a television monitor, and in most cases, the data can later be converted by a computer into digital form. This procedure, called image processing, plays a central role in astronomy today. Using false colors, the computer can display images of information otherwise undetectable to the unaided eye. These colors are false in the sense that they are not the actual colors of the object in the visual range of the spectrum. Rather, they are codes to a specific property, such as the X-ray emissions from stars.

The word "employed" in paragraph 1 could be best replaced by _____.
