Robot

The word ‘robot’ was introduced for first time in 1921 by the Czech writer Karel Capek in his play Rossum’s Universal Robots. These robots were like humans because they could think for themselves. When we hear the word ‘robot’ nowadays, we think of a that must be told what to do and that cannot think for itself.

But can a robot that shows emotions be created? Actually, yes, and it’s already been done! A robot called Kismet has been developed with eyes, lips, and ears. These features move and allow emotions to be expressed. Kismet doesn’t enjoy , so when that happens he looks sad. He loves attention, though, so when he sees a human face, he smiles. expressions such as interest, calm, surprise, anger, and happiness can also be seen on his face.

At present, other robots are being made that will be able play sports, so in the future people might not be paid millions to play for the best team. Everyone will be cheering on their robot heroes instead.

Missing dog

“Hey, Dad. Look at this.” We were standing next to the mailboxes. . It read: Missing Dog. Answers to the name of Ginger with a collar around her neck. If found, call 868-2902.
“Doesn’t that sound like the dog we saw running down the street this morning?”
“It surely does. . We might see her again.”
We looked and looked as we drove home, but there was no sign of Ginger. I begged Dad to drive around the neighborhood one more time.
“We just might see her, if we go around one more time.”
“Okay,” he said. “We have time, so let’s give it a whirl.”
. “Ginger. Ginger. Here girl.”
Dad continued to drive down the street. .
“Dad, watch out!” A tiny blue car with a pizza sign on top cut us off as we were about to turn left into our street. Right as we swerved to miss the car, I noticed a flash of tan and white in the car’s mirror.
“Stop!” I wailed. I jumped out of the car and ran behind it.
Right there in the middle of the road was a little dog that looked just like the poster. She was whimpering, but I managed to pick her up. I struggled back to the car. . Dad let me dial it.
“Hello,” a sad voice answered the phone.
“Hello,” I said. “I think I have a surprise for you!”

Read the following passage and choose the correct answer to each of the following questions.

The sea has always interested people. From it, they can get food, minerals, and treasures. For thousands of years, they sailed on the sea. But they could not go far beneath its surface. People want to explore deep into the sea. However, they are not fishes. Because people must breathe air, they cannot stay under the water’s surface for any length of time. To explore deep water, men and women face even more dangers and problems. A diver who wants to stay underwater for more than a few minutes must breathe air or a special mixture of gases. Divers can wear diving suits and have air pumped to them from above. They can carry tanks of air on their back and breathe through a hose and a mouthpiece. Water weighs 800 times as much as air. Tons of water push against a diver deep in the sea. The diver’s body is under great pressure. When divers are under great pressure, their blood takes in some of the gases they breathe. As they rise too quickly, the gases in their blood form bubbles. Divers then suffer from the bends. The bends can cause divers to double up in pain. Bends can even kill divers.

The story does not say so, but it makes you think that _____.

  • divers explore the deep seas only for treasure
  • Divers can wear diving suits to avoid the bends
  • diving under the water too quickly causes the bends
  • deep-sea divers should be in good health
