Read the passage and answer the questions.

Most city parks offer a break from big, ugly metal and stone structures, but the Manhattan High Line is unique. This large metal structure, 25 feet above the ground, once carried trains directly to factories and warehouses. Opened in 1934, the rail line was rarely used after the 1960s, and most of it was demolished. However, one section remained in Chelsea, a part of Manhattan that was becoming more upscale with new restaurants, art galleries, and apartments. Despite these changes, the old railway remained an eyesore. Everyone expected it to be removed eventually.

Surprisingly, the High Line was not torn down. Instead, it was transformed into one of the city's most peaceful parks. The elevated rail line now features beautiful gardens, a promenade, and fantastic city views. The idea to turn the rail line into a park came from Joshua David and Robert Hammond. In 1999, they attended a community meeting to discuss the High Line's future. David and Hammond were the only ones interested in saving the historical structure. When they asked railway officials to take them up to see the High Line, they found a mile and a half of wildflowers growing and realized it could become a park. With growing interest in improving urban areas, the project quickly gained support and funding.

The first section of the High Line opened in 2009 and was immediately popular with both tourists and locals. Each part of the park has a unique feel. Some areas are like balconies with great city views, while others, where the rail line passes between buildings, are filled with trees. There are also sections with wide lawns and wildflower walkways. Only the final section remains untouched, still overgrown with weeds as it has been for the last fifty years.
