A REMARKABLE SWIM

Ross Edgley is a British adventurer and fitness expert. In November 2018, he completed an incredible journey, becoming the first person ever to swim all the way around Great Britain. He swam a total of 1,791 miles over 157 days. During the entire trip, Ross never once set foot on land. He slept on a support boat that followed him, and then he would get back into the sea to continue his journey.

The swim was extremely difficult for Ross's body. He had to deal with very cold water, painful stings from giant jellyfish, and a "salt tongue" - a condition where the seawater makes the tongue feel very sore. To keep his energy up, he ate a huge amount of food, including more than 500 bananas! He spent many hours each day in the water, often swimming in the middle of the night to take advantage of the tides.

When Ross finally arrived at the finish line in Margate, thousands of people were there to cheer for him. He was happy to win a world record, but at the moment, he isn't interested in any new adventures. He just wants to eat a proper meal and rest with his family.

Read the following passage and choose the correct answer to each of the questions.

KEEPING THE CITY GREEN

The Rivers family is well-known for their work to protect nature. Recently, twelve-year-old Leo Rivers became the youngest winner of the "Green City Award." He earned it for turning an empty area of land into a beautiful community garden. Leo is the youngest person ever to win this prize - the person who held the record before him was his cousin, Maria, who won it when she was fifteen.

Leo’s older brother, Jake, also loves the planet. Jake started a successful recycling company when he was seventeen, which is four years before most young people start their first business. Their parents, David and Sarah, both study nature for their jobs. They say their children’s success is not about luck. Instead, it comes from waking up early and following a "zero-waste" lifestyle at home.

"Neighbors often think that we spend too much money on expensive gardening tools and that we don't let the children have any normal toys. But that is not true!" says David. "We have plenty of fun time. However, we teach the children that nature is the most important thing. We make sure they understand that caring for the Earth comes before their own comfort."

When the city held the award ceremony last week, the whole family went to support Leo. Maria even missed a big swimming competition - a sport she had practiced for five years. "I felt sad about missing my race," Maria said, "but seeing Leo on that stage made me realize that being there for my family is more important than any medal."
