One, Ones, Other, Others, The other, Another thuộc nhóm các từ liên quan mà bạn có thể cần cẩn trọng khi sử dụng bởi chúng dễ gây nhầm lẫn. 1. Cách dùng One & Ones

 

Ta dùng 'ones' và 'ones' để thay thế một danh từ trong câu. Cụ thể:

• 'one': được sử dụng để thay thế một danh từ số ít trong một câu
• 'ones': được sử dụng để thay thế một danh từ số nhiều trong câu

Dưới đây là các vị trí của 'one' và 'ones' trong câu:

Theo sau một tính từ	See those two girls? Helen is the tall one and Jane is the short one. Which is your car, the red one or the blue one? My trousers are torn. I need some new ones.
Theo sau 'the'	See those two girls? Helen is the one on the left. Let's look at the photographs – the ones you took in Paris.
Theo sau 'which' trong câu hỏi	You can borrow a book. Which one do you want? Which ones are yours?

 

Ngoài ra, ta có thể dùng 'one' theo cấu trúc như sau:

one of + the + danh từ số nhiều: Một trong những... 

one of + sở hữu (my/his/her...) + danh từ số nhiều: Một trong những... của...

Ví dụ:

• One of the people in my class has left the college. (Một trong số bạn cùng lớp tôi đã thôi học.) 
• One of my friends has gone to live in the US. (Một trong số những người bạn của tôi đã tới sống ở Mỹ.)

2. Cách dùng Another

 

'another' vừa có nghĩa của một tính từ "khác, nữa"; vừa có nghĩa của một danh từ "người khác, cái khác"

Dưới đây là các vị trí của 'another' trong câu:

Đứng trước danh từ số ít như một từ hạn định	I have just bought another mobile phone. Would you like another glass of wine? I think you should choose another house. The one is so dull.
Đứng trước 'one'	I have already drunk 2 glass of water, but I still feel thirsty and I want another one. His window was broken. I think he need another one.
Đứng một mình như một đại từ	The pizza is very tasty. I think I’ll have another. I didn’t like the red dress, so I took another. Hanna can’t stand her man any more, so she’ll divorce and gets married to another.
Đứng trước một số và danh từ số nhiều	In another 20 years, I’ll be a famous scientic. She doesn’t want to go back home, so she’ll spend another 5 days in Paris. My father was given another couple of days to complete the painting.

 

Lưu ý:

• 'One another': dùng với nhóm nhiều hơn 2 đối tượng.
• 'Each other': dùng với nhóm 2 đối tượng.

Ví dụ:

• Let’s make groups of five and talk to one another! (Hãy đứng 5 người 1 nhóm và nói chuyện với nhau.)
• My grandparents have been together for more than 50 years and they still love each other as always. (Ông bà tôi đã ở bên nhau hơn 50 rồi mà vẫn luôn yêu thương nhau.)

3. Cách dùng Other & Others

 

'Other' và 'others' đều mang nghĩa "khác", "những cái khác". Tuy nhiên, cách sử dụng của chúng có một chút khác biệt:

• Theo sau 'other' thường là một danh từ hoặc đại từ.
• Đối với 'others', bản thân nó là một đại từ và không theo sau một danh từ.

Ví dụ:

• Thoes jackets isn’t fit me. Do you have any other jackets?
• Thoes jackets isn’t fit me. Do you have any others?

Dưới đây là vị trí của 'other' và 'others' trong câu:

Đứng trước danh từ không đếm được	Some music make people relax, other music has the opposite effect. The first page has general information about hotel to stay. Other travel information is in the second page.
Đứng trước danh từ số nhiều	We have other rooms for you to choose. Have you got any other T-shirts, or are these the only ones? I have told about your wedding to other people. Is that okay?
Đứng trước 'ones' như một từ hạn định	We don’t like these pizza. We want other ones, please.
Vị trí của 'others'
Đứng một mình như một đại từ	I don’t like these temps, let’s ask for others. Some of class finished the final exam on Monday. Others finished the following day. Those people didn’t answer the phone call, please call others.

4. Cách dùng The other & The others

 

'The other' và 'the others' là những từ xác định (definite articles), nghĩa là chúng chỉ một hoặc nhiều người hoặc vật cụ thể mà cả người nói và người nghe đều biết hoặc đã được nhắc đến trước đó.

Dưới đây là vị trí của 'the other' và 'the others' trong câu:

Đứng một mình như một đại từ khi nhắc lại một cái gì đó đã xuất hiện trước	He had his hat in one hand and a bunch of flowers in the other. (= the other hand)
Vị trí của 'others'
Đứng một mình như một đại từ khi đề cập tới phần còn lại của một nhóm	This car got better gas mileage than the others we tested. (= the other cars)

5. Bài tập về One, Ones, Other, Others, The other & Another
